Stay over Here!
Whenever friends and family get together for a big event they will always want to get away from the boring and go run around crazy like chickens with their heads cut off. That’s a given. At least for Shelby and Sophie. There is no way that they can get together without at some point going crazy. That is exactly what happen on Sunday, April 20. Easter.
After a beautiful service at Roberts Stadium, put on by Crossroads, Shelby and her family headed over to the Fox’s, some close friends of Shelby’s family. When they pulled into the Fox’s driveway everyone was getting ready to get out when Shelby’s mom, Kendra, said, “Before you all go crazy and change out of your church clothes into your play clothes, we are going to get a nice family photo taken.”
“Uggghhh,” all the children groaned.
“Just one picture, then you can go crazy” Shelby’s mom said. So everyone got out of the car and ran over to the patio to say hello to the Fox’s and the rest of their guests. Shelby immediately went over to Sophie Fox.
“Hey Sophie!” Shelby said in a funny voice.
“Are you ready to dominate in kickball this year?” Sophie replied. It was tradition every year to play a big game of kickball after the feast. Kids against adults.
“Oh yeah!” Shelby replied while kicking her shoes off like Sophie had already done. Sophie and Shelby ran over to mingle with the rest of the Fox’s and their guests.
“We should start the egg hunt!” said Sophie’s older sister, Claire.
“Yeah!” All the kids laughed. So off all the kids went running around the yard picking up plastic eggs, forgetting all about what Shelby’s mom had said in the car. The kids (a sixth grader, 7th grader, eighth grader, two high schoolers, and three college kids) quickly finished up the egg hunt and started eating the candy from inside.
“What are you doing?” Mrs. Fox said excitedly, “You shouldn’t be eating candy we are about to have a big meal!” Mrs. Fox laughed and so did all the kids. Then Shelby’s mom came over.
“Uh oh,” Shelby thought looking down at her rumpled dress and shoeless feet.
“I thought I told you to stay calm until we took the picture,” Kendra laughed.
“Uh, whoops…” Quinn, Shelby, and Savannah stuttered.
“C’mon, we are going to go get the picture taken, then you can go back over and goof around again. Also, would you please straighten up.” So off Quinn, Shelby, and Savannah went. When they got out in front of the large tree that they would be taking their picture in front of, Shelby’s eyes trailed off to Sophie, who was laughing. She wanted to go over there so bad, but she knew she had to get this picture taken. She would get the picture taken and then run over to Sophie to figure out what was so funny. It took about five minutes for Shelby’s whole family to get in the perfect setup. Finally, click went the camera, and simultaneously Quinn, Shelby, and Savannah ran over to join the part.
“Come back over here!” Kendra yelled. Someone’s eyes were closed. The kids dragged themselves back over to the tree to retake the photo. By the third try the picture qualified, and Quinn, Shelby, and Savannah were released to go pack to the fun.
Now you can see exactly how much work went into the photo you are looking at. In may look fine when you look at it, but for some people it was a struggle. Remember, the next time you have to take a photo stay until you are released.
